My Kids Are Awesome

I have been working desultorily on a long, expansive blog post about kids. Expectations. How kids stumble, how parents have to balance correction with praise. Too much praise, and kids might turn into entitled brats. Too much correction, and they could become bitter emos. In trying to get the nuance *just* right in talking about that balance, I have started the recursive iterations of re-writing the same thing over and over again.

So I'm breaking out of that rut! I was going to put a hurried post up asking people to donate to my son's MS Fundraiser 100-mile ride (on a tandem bike)
I mean really; 100 miles on a tandem bike?! That's awesome!

But now I don't need to; he reached the goal! Yay!

And I wanted to embed Max singing some Tom Waits.

If you don't know Tom Waits, shame on you!

So, something lengthy and thoughtful soon enough. All of my kids are amazing, and I am glad for them. You hear that, my kids? If you EVER feel like I don't think you are amazing, you just ask me, I can tell you all the ways you amaze me, even in the middle of being angry at you. I still love you.

What I'm trying to figure out is how to make praise work as a means of correction. How to catch people doing good, or thinking about doing good, or almost doing good and helping them have confidence that they can do what they should do.
